The proposed Small Footprint ADU design offers a sustainable, energy-efficient living space of 600 square feet, featuring a bedroom, a full bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room. The design integrates passive strategies such as a rammed earth wall for thermal mass, a breeze wall for shading and cooling, and a solar chimney for natural ventilation. Photovoltaic panels on the roof provide renewable energy, while a solar collector heats water for the house, reducing energy consumption and utility costs. The ADU includes accessible features like a ramped entrance and a full ADA bathroom. The design is adaptable to various lot configurations, ensuring flexibility for different site conditions. The use of locally sourced materials and renewable energy systems reduces environmental impact, making this ADU a cost-effective, sustainable, and versatile housing solution for homeowners in Tempe, promoting both energy efficiency and affordability.
